Got hit head on last night when parked. Launched the car about 25'.

Here are some pictures. I have to wait a week for the Sheriff to get me the other person's information before I can file a claim with their insurance. I don't want to go through mine. Fortunately I have more than one car.

Nighttime picture shows where it ended up. It started just outside the frame of the picture.

The little stuff. I guess PDR can fix the hood, then put new 3M clear bra on.
The fit of the hood on the passenger by the scuttle makes me wonder if the frame was tweaked.

That sucks that someone hit your parked vehicle last night! What concerns me is that the SE has 2 radiators, and I can't see past the rock guard (behind the active grill shutters). Also I have no idea about your driver front suspension but I see you moved the vehicle forward during the daytime.

Sorry to see this.
Your car was hit hard enough to push it back 25ft? If so, it seems to have survived this reasonably well. Or was it a more gentle hit and perpetrator just kept on going?

You'll probably still be shocked at the repair cost. If it was a Tesla it would probably be a write off!

Good luck

I may be better off if they write it off. I moved it last night to where it was before it got hit.
It will probably be two weeks before an adjuster sees it.

For getting moved '25, I'm surprised that the front end wasn't crumpled. If it is a write off, your replacement options are limited: cars.com says that there are 254 SE's left in the US, and only 37 chili red SEs. Time to reserve an SE Countryman?

I'm going to guess $10,000+ if you are going to replace with OEM parts entirely.
One Colorado dealer says "up to $19,000 in lease incentives & tax credits on the 2024 Mini electric."
The other says "lease for 135 mo 36 mo 0 down" MSRP $35,220. Elway Price $16,220."
If your $10,000 is accurate I may be in a bizarre place. Maybe I should have bought the gap insurance.

That looks like it could be very expensive. It also looks like you may be able to buy yourself a bargain beater...

Anyone have any experience with Root insurance? . Adjusters no longer look at the car. Now they want four, yes four pictures for their appraiser to determine the damage. Then, the adjuster told me, the body shop can file a supplement. My other cars are not insured for everyday use, so I have a feeing I am going to be in their rental for a "looong" time.

The hood/bonnet with the full 3M wrap is somewhere in the $3,000 range. It may get interesting.

Do I send it to the bodyshop with the not perfect JCW rims and winter tires or the factory rims?

Insurance typically doesn't cover protective film or tint.
Well, my car was parked and their insured whacked it. At a minimum I expect it to be put back physically in the same condition it was before the accident. Then there will be a discussion about diminution of value.
It took 8 days for me to get the police report with her insurance info. Now her insurance company says it will take a week to determine liability. At least two weeks will pass before the repair process will finally begin. I can go as slow as them - with their rental. Or let a judge in small claims decide.

Update - her insurance admitted 100% liability and came up with an estimate of 2,900 included 11 hours to bang out the hood damage. After a week it was flatbedded to the body shop the dealer uses (a BMW certified shop). I got an update yesterday 14,400 and it has not yet been on the frame machine, and the clear bra on the whole bonnet and bumper is not included in that total.

Is it going to be a total loss? Only about 3,000 to go.

That also doesn't include the $$ for the diminution of value that I will sue for in small claims court if necessary. Between 5% and 10% of the value before the accident. Not major, but...

It is a total loss. I got the call monday from her company telling me it was a total when I was on the road. The fellow that called said it would take a week to determine the payout offer. Shortly after that I got calls from her insurance telling me to relinquish control of the vehicle. I ignored that call, got another on tuesday while on the road. This person was pretty aggressive. I said I am not relinquishing control of my vehicle until we agree on the value.

Shortly after I got a threatening letter saying:
"As of the date of this letter, your vehicle has not been released, which prevents Root from moving forward with the handling of your property damage claim. Please contact (the collision shop) at once to release your vehicle to Root so that we may proceed with the handling of your claim.
Please be advised that Root will not pay for any storage fees incurred after 6/21/24. Any charges after that date are subject to being deducted from your total loss settlement."

I read that as a threat. Did you?

I don't like being threatened, and I responded to the email stating this is a threat, and asked for the statute he is relying on that gives him authority to make that threat before the value is determined. I also advised him that if he wants the car out of the shop, they can have it towed to my house, and as I mentioned in an earlier email, they would be responsible for any fines my HOA charges for having a wrecked car in front of the house. I may have to lawyer up. Oh, wait a minute...

Root knows you're not going to be happy with their offer. Interaction with the legal system seems inevitable.

Well then the car will be in my possession should the inevitable happen. If getting possession of the car and then lowballing is their M.O., I will be the exception.

Releasing the car to the insurance company is pretty standard in my experience.

When we were in this situation, I negotiated the payout with my insurance company, not the other driver's company (the other driver's was at fault). I never talked to the other insurance company at all.
