Ford F-150 Lightning Reservation

Reserved one, but who knows if I will get it. I also reserved a Model X with deliver date as January 2022. My ideal combination would be a Plugin Lexus RX + F150 or Plugin Lexus RX + Model X.
 
My combination would be a Polestar 2 and the F 150 but I just need one car so we shall see.

Our own @Tom Moloughney put in a reservation in case Tesla doesn't come through with Cybertruck.

Apparently, Ford got 20,000 reservations in less than 12 hours, according to CEO Jim Farley.

Local dealer I selected just sent me this tidbit of info on the Lightning I reserved, thought I'd pass it along.

"As we receive updates on configurations, pricing, and delivery ETA's we will notify you right away. Right now we are expecting the configurations to open later this year. At that time, we will get together and go over all specifications and features you would like to have on your new F-150 Lightning."
 
I got a response back from my selected dealer letting me know the reservation had been forwarded to them. They said that they don't have much information on the truck yet but will forward any as soon as they receive it. I will post any new info as I receive it.
 
Considering it, but won't buy it in the first couple model years. Want to get more use out of my current car (Niro) before replacing it with something new.
 
I think I might. This seems to be the first production electric pickup that doesn't look hideous. I suspect it will sell pretty well. The Cybertruck will probably sell to folks who are Tesla fans or need to tow > 10000 lbs, which is going to be pretty small. Pricing is very competitive. Game on, Tesla.

If initial numbers are limited, there might be an immediate resale flip for a profit. I don't really need a truck though.

I cannot accept the shape of cybertruck. I wish F150 has a 500 mile range model though. Let's see how Tesla can achieve it, that means 200kWh battery, which weighs a lot.

While I fully appreciate the F-150 and see it as the best EV news yet this year, I have to defend the Cybertruck a bit.
Remember that the shape of the cybertruck is function over form. You need to see it like a truss bridge rather than a basic beam bridge. It carries weight on and between the wheels. It can span more with greater strength. Sure, it has an imposing shape, however, that shape gives it characteristics way beyond what can be done on a traditional body-on-frame truck.
The "Cyber" moniker is just marketing justification of the necessary shape.
Overall, I'm, personally, leaning toward the F-150 Lightning because I prefer to be able to reach in to the side of a truck, not just load from the rear. I don't currently need the incredible strength of the Cybertruck. I'm not committing to anything yet though.
I can see, however, that, if its all style that you're interested in, then the Cybertruck isn't for you.

I kind of like the lower front end profile of Cybertruck as well. Don't mean do drift off topic, but it really great to see these trucks finally coming available, and the more choices the better.:)

Is function why it haves a super sloped windshield that will be annoying to look through while providing ample greenhouse heating of the cabin in direct sunlight, and sharp edges that will break up laminar air flow? (Aerodynamics won't matter much to something that is meant to haul, but it doesn't help).

I am not a mechanical engineer and I only have one graduate course in fluid dynamics under my belt. With that caveat, the thing is ugly, and a lot of what contributes to the ugly vibe does not seem functional to me.

In absolute aesthetics, the F-150 is not terribly pretty, but it is not ugly and it is familiar.

the only logic I see to the look of the cybertruck is for owners who want to say "Look at me ! Look ! Here I am! Are you watching me?"

I think you understand the desired functionality of the Cybertruck. If one is hauling or towing, subtle laminar flow issues go out the window immediately. Strength, weight, and simple manufacturing appear to fit within the function of its design. If the form and functionality you want is aerodynamic efficiency, stick with the Model 3.
I'm not a fluid dynamicist either (although I did work for a few for a while) but I suspect the Cyber truck's aerodynamic properties still will be among the best of the trucks on the market anyway.
I dunno about the "super sloped windshield" but I maybe it fits nicely along the structural trusses that make up the truck sides.

To each his/her own. I hope that GM comes up with yet another variant on the EV truck to appeal to even more people. The more, the better.

I like geometry, it's a large part of my career, I don't want a large part of it in my driveway. Ugly is a polite way to describe that hideous thing.
