Right - will it stay at 0, after you release the paddle? Is there any way to have it at 0 each time you start it up? Can you put in in 0 at the beginning of each drive, and have it stay at zero?

  3. In my experience it will stay at zero until you alter the setting at which point it will remain on the new setting until you click the paddles moving it up or down the regen range - including back down to zero.

I will add that the smart cruise control and collision avoidance systems (if activated) will automatically override any manual inputs and impose whatever regen level the computer feels is appropriate to maintain safe speed and distance.

  4. You can set the level of regen for each drive mode, Eco , Normal or Sport, starting at level 1 .

  5. Yes, in normal driving with the right side paddle. It does not select if you are in cruise control or are braking with the pedal.

  6. Thanks for the reminder on the smart recoup
BTW on another post you mentioned of a 120 ohm resistor and some switch , mom contact I think, applied to door a switch assy pin to disable VESS.
Now that I am going to drive with windows open, I would like that ability to monitor other sounds ( not on a permanent basis ) . Do you have a diagram to share, and if so is it the manual from European version which I think they have the ability to silence it if wanted?

  8. No I don't. That info has been around for a few months on other groups.

  9. I agree, I wish you could program 0 to be the default for some modes. I can understand it not being able to be the default for Eco for example. But not for Normal or Sport mode.

  10. Do either one of you actually have a Kona EV?

  11. Of course! I just happen to prefer doing regen myself with the paddles and not having it default to 1 all the time. I don't want 1 to be the default, I want 0.

  13. All you need to do is click left and it returns to zero.

  14. I think you mean the right paddle

  15. Yup. Whoops.

  16. Oh I guess you didn't read what I said? Let me repeat for those catching up: "I don't want 1 to be the default, I want 0."

  17. To put it another way, if 0 regen is an option (and it is), and the user is allowed to set a default value for regen for each mode (and they are), then there is no reason not to allow a user to set 0 as the default.

  18. The little box in the display on the LCD contains 3 <<< of these indicating level 3 regen, if you pull the right paddle once it will go to 2 << (level 2) then again 1 < (level 1) then once more it will display no arrows (level 0), not sure you can have this as default but it certainly capable of level 0 regen
Edit- you type faster than me:eek:

I cannot figure out most efficient use of regen settings.
Level 3 if downhill, 0 if uphill, and 2 if on level road? Level 3 slowing down, of course.
Can judicious use of paddles beat the car's radar-guided automatic regen?

  20. I assume the reason is that the algorithms in the individual modes are written making assumptions that more (or less) Regen is desirable in order to attain the benefits of a given drive mode and by altering the preset you might mitigate the benefits of that particular drive mode. A lot of the other EVs I'm aware of have only a fixed Regen setting so being able to move it up and down quickly, responding to changes in driving requirements is, to me, a big plus.

  21. I get peeved by the radar overriding my braking with Regen. It always seems to respond much later and more abruptly than I want. I can milk deceleration for Regen distance much better than the radar can. I''ll step from one to three to slow and then quickly to zero to coast behind a car in front of me (through a low speed zone, for example) while the radar slams into three as I approach a car and stays there, forcing me to use the accelerator to regain and maintain speed.

Yes. That's my experience, too. I think we humans can beat the Kona's automatic regen program.

  23. Absolutely, agreed, all I was saying is that if they're are going to let you change the default why not let you change it to any of the regen levels available. But yeah, it's nice to be able to change it at all. I really don't care that much I just personally would prefer being able to always start at 0 as the default, like the original person that mentioned it.
