We are thinking of purchasing the KonaEv. I can't find anywhere that safety tests have been done. Will the battery portion of the car catch on fire in an accident?

You're right, the Kona EV hasn't been crash tested, but the gas-engined Kona has and it performed well: https://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/hyundai/kona-4-door-suv/2018. It would expect the EV to perform similarly.

Any electric car has a potential fire risk in an accident, but it's important to remember that gas-engined cars also carry a large quantity of combustible fuel. So it's not as if you're risk-free in either type of vehicle.
