For those that have said the preconditioning now works even when connected to 120v - can you confirm HOW you got it to work? I tried it yesterday and still got this message on my phone.. Precondition by Aaron Pittenger posted Feb 14, 2018 at 11:30 PM
Preconditioning while 120V charging has always worked fine for me, but I do get the warning message in the app telling me it won't work. Yet another Honda software bug.
Hi Egor, I ordered my Clarity basic on Jan 24 (in Ottawa) as well. Expecting the car sometime in mid March according to dealer. I am planning on getting the JuiceBox Pro 40 charger as recommended by several people that has EV/PHEV that I talked to. It is retailing at $999 so I can get the maximum $500 from the government and most people told me installation cost around $1000 so basically I should get the full $1,000 from the province. My understanding is most of the Ottawa inventory of Clarity are sold already so I presume there are around 10-12 Clarity running around Ottawa (my dealer told me each local dealer gets 2 cars initially, 1 base and 1 touring)
Jim, So you do get the same message that I posted above in the screenshot and yet it still turns on anyway? Does the App show it as running?
I can't view your screenshot as it says I'm not authorized to view it. But I have my preconditioning scheduled to turn on at 7 AM each morning and the app says it turned on (my Clarity is connected to a regular 120V wall outlet). Unfortunately, I have never noticed much of a preconditoning effect in these extremely cold climes (mostly single digits F) that I live in.
I can't view your screenshot. After selecting to turn on the preconditioning, you get an error message. Then press continue, the app shows interior temperature and that the heat is on. It does not get to full 72 degree setpoint, but gets to comfortable temperature.
Interesting!!! I do get that 'error message' any time I am NOT connected to 120v (so on 240v or unplugged) and then I press continue and it works exactly as you described. When I'm plugged into 120v I get a different message that basically says I can't do that with no option to continue (only 'dismiss'). See if you can see the image with this link. https://photos.app.goo.gl/IIjZCcqRRgTCc4VC2
I can see your attachment now. That is a different message than I get. Here is my error message and the screen I see after the preconditioning begins:
Yep, that's exactly what I get when I'm NOT connected to a 120v charger. Do you get that message all the time, or only when connected to 120? Also, are you android or apple? I wonder if that makes a difference.
I just realized that in the example I sent, the car is still plugged into 120V, however charging has completed. When I precondition the car, it is in the morning after the level 1 charge completed during the night.
Sorry if I was misleading. I took that screen shot yesterday to show you what it looked like while remote preconditioning. My car was parked at airport and was not charging. I now realize that you need a screen shot showing the car plugged into 120V AND actively charging, then turn on climate control. I'll try that when I get home later this week.
I actually meant to test that too and totally forgot - I just checked (currently plugged into 120v and fully charged). Sure enough, the climate control turned on just as it did for you. So the detail must be that the battery must be fully charged (or above a certain percentage) for it to work on 120v. As you can see in my screenshot above, my car was not fully charged when I tried it previously. Other notes to test: 1) My phone with HondaLink open kept going into 'driving mode'. Where it thinks you are plugged into the USB of the car. Strange, but I just clicked 'dismiss' and 'I'm Safe' and it went back to the app and worked like normal. 2) The climate control wasn't running 'full blast' like it does on 240v or unplugged. Though I suspect this is probably because the interior of the car was already 64 degrees rather than the usual 'below freezing' temps when I'm normally trying to use it. I do want to test this though and see if maybe it runs at a lower level when connected to a 120v charger (but I doubt that is the case.) Thanks for all the help! Would sure be nice if Honda documented all of this in the owners manual....
No worries - I trust you that it acts the same way! I didn't even catch that it wasn't charging in your previous screenshot.
I believe I made two incorrect assumptions: (1) That the Hondalink phone app would not give me a message about 120V limitations unless the car knew it was connected to 120V. (I now realize I always get this message and there is no "don't show this again" checkbox.) (2) That the car would pull 120V power (if plugged in) to help with preconditioning. I now think if charging has completed, it only uses battery power for preconditioning. Does anyone know if after reaching full charge, the car will ever tell the EVSE to deliver more charge? I'm thinking of situations where the car might sit for weeks and you want to keep the battery at full charge.
When I just tested it did start 'charging' again on 120v when I turned on climate control with a full charge. No clue if it would periodically maintain charge....
Hey from Ottawa Igor and scuba, what dealership did you guys go with? I'm close to pulling the trigger and want to hear your experiences. Were you able to test drive before buying? Orleans Honda wouldn't let me.... Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
