It will be interesting to see what the Kona ev is really capable of. I plan on having the same commute for another 6-7 years. No doubt I'm a glutton for punishment. Weekend soccer is in the mix also. The car is wonderful so far.//

I used to commute about 50 miles each way from 2003 to 2010.. Right now, my commute is only 24 miles each way. However, I drive a lot besides my commute. I frequently drive to see my parents or other friends who live about 60 miles from my home, so 120 mile round trip each time.
As predicted, I hit 18000 miles yesterday, driving 60 miles to a mall in Orlando.. while at the mall, car was charging for almost 4 hours on a free level 2 and it was almost 100% when we left Orlando to drive back home.. I had left my home at 80% and arrived at home just below 80% after a 120 mile drive.

I’ve had my Kona since 3/29/19. 21,500 miles now. Have 2 jobs & travel a lot for both. Sooo happy to not buy gas. The car has been perfect

After almost a year I've broken 20,000 km. The interesting thing is that this is double the figure for recent years. Partly because the car is (still) so much fun to drive, partly because it costs little or nothing to jump in and go to the next town for lunch.

  11. This is what it is for me. Going places and doing things that I wouldn't have before, because I didn't want to waste gas.

Bought mine 3/31/19 and I have just over 33,000. For the first 6 months, my commute was 180mi round trip. Now, I'm down to 120. I'm hoping to move closer to work later this year. But the Kona EV has been a life saver for me for my commute! Being in Southern California, gas is pretty expensive and I'm very thankful to not have to pay $300-ish/month in gas. This morning, my dash read that my kWh average was 5.6 miles!

  16. Wow that is a great consumption figure. We have only had our Kona for the past 6 weeks in frigid weather and my average is 2.56 miles per kw, looking forward to warmer weather.

So you're seeing about 24 kWh per 100 km. Expect that to drop to 15 in the summer, at least when AC is not on.

  19. Yes when its -20C to -30C most days 24-25 kwh/100km is the number, at that temp even with preconditioning the resistive heater is on most of the time at 3-5.9 kwh to keep the cabin temp at 20-21C and windows defrosted. At -10C the consumption drops to ~20-21kwh/100km.

Leases often charge very little more for 1,500 miles per month. What I do is to negotiate the best deal then, just before signing, I say oh I need 1500 per month. Sometimes they just throw it in.

Today, I hit 30k miles on a 300 mile day trip..

Charged at EA from 39 to 72% for $9.. Max charge rate was 72.25 kwh
Averaged 4.0 mi/kwh despite driving up to 86 mph at times. Most of the trip was 65 mph.. It also included about 30 mins of me sitting in the car with the AC on waiting for the wife to come out of a store..... Car was on, so it was part of my trips mi/Kwh

I drive SO much less than most of you! I've had my car since March 7 and it has about 785 miles on it. That's partly due to COVID restricting travel, but even under normal circumstances I take public transit to work (WAY less stressful than driving across the Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland!), and average something like 350 miles a month. But I will put on a bit more miles in August, when I'm spending a few days in Monterey, which is a bit over 100 miles from me, and will be driving around sightseeing in the region. That will likely be the first time I actually need to charge somewhere other than home (though I do get a free charge from a local Volta station when I'm able, because free is my favorite price).
