My account with Honda Financial has been closed with a 0 balance. The car though has ended up at the auto recycling facility in adelanto according to the honda app yesterday. It's a shame that they have done that but hey it's "their" property. Still don't understand whats the purpose of having the car inspected if they are going to dismantle it anyway...they could have at least reimbursed for the tires I put on there per their request. Honda makes great cars and I really like their cars, but this leaves a bad taste. Sorry for the rant, onto another car, not a lease :)

What number did you guys contact? I haven't been able to find anyone who can help with cancelling the lease early. Did anyone get charged the remainder of their lease?

My lease language says you can terminate early with 90 days written notice. Not entirely clear on what you would owe.

Was looking at the Ioniq EV as a possible swap since they were basically giving them away. Decided to wait it out as the Clarity is much more comfortable although lacking some of the features of the Ioniq Limited trim (range being most obvious).
Total for three years of the Ioniq EV Limited would have been $4,765 ($2K drive off + $79/mo), including taxes, plates, registration, acquisition fee, dealer fees, etc.
SE trim would have been $3,365 (same $2K but $39/mo)

I would confirm with your dealer as for me honda finance doesn't allow early termination. You can return the car early but you still have to pay the full term of the balance owed. The only other way I was told was the dealership offered to go into another car. Hopefully others had better luck.

I ended up paying the lease full term after already purchasing the replacement cause of a deal they had on the Niro at the time.

I believe some have turned in early with the additional lease payments to avoid the additional insurance cost.

Worth noting that if you plan to "Relocate the Vehicle, permanently or for a long-term period" to another State or where Honda deems outside the normal service area you are required to notify them. I'm assuming they will then exercise their right to terminate, and at that point you will not owe the balance.

Oh you had to pay the remainder of the lease? I thought they allowed early returns without payments because you can't purchase the car.

What really makes me sad is what they do with these compliance vehicles after they're turned in. It's ridiculous that they don't allow you to just buy them if you so choose. My friend just turned his Clarity BEV in recently... Hondalink was still active, so he tracked it, and the very next day, it was a a salvage yard, getting crushed!

Did anyone have to pay excess mileage fees upon lease return?

Could anyone provide the number they used to return their car? I been waiting two months for a response from Honda for an early return.

Did you give them the required 90 days notice in writing?

May I ask where you were able to buy four tires for $100.00? Mine are down to almost bald and I hate to think of paying for new ones just to have the car scrapped. I am in LA/Orange County, CA. Thank you!

May I ask where you were able to find 4 tires for $100.00? I sure would love to know. Mine are almost bald and think it would be a waste of time, resources and money to purchase new one. Especially if the cars are to be scrapped.

    Greetings,

My 2018 Clarity Electric lease ends 1/4/2022. I am wonder if anyone had to pay the Disposition Fee? My contract list it as a "outstanding prior credit or lease balance" of $690. I am hoping not, as they are going to toss the car anyway. I know, wishful thinking. :)

    Thanks,

    GHTech

A compliance car is sold in limited quantities and limited markets (CARB States or some subset) solely to earn credits. They are often sold or leased at a loss. The Clarity FCX and BEV are most definitely compliance vehicles. The PHEV cersion has been - at times - essentially restricted to CA, and would then fall in that category. When it was available nationally, it does not meet the original definition of compliance vehicle.

I've actually never leased a vehicle, but if you google it generally you'll find a bunch of information. i.e.
