  2. Using that as a basis and most noticeable tapping sound at low speed - say 10 kph (6.2 mph), 1.159 ( tire rotation as per calculator)* 7.9 ( reduction gear ratio) = 9 Taps / second which sounds about right of course slower at slightly lower speed.

  3. ... for a once per rev tap from the motor, which is what you've calculated by including the gear ratio :)

  4. Well at least Hyundai decided to include a tachometer at no extra charge:D

  5. I went down to my dealer to get it fixed, they said they didn't hear it, but I kept talking with them and they eventually said to take a video and send it to them. Fingers crossed they can just get the new revised motor in and replace it soon.

Video for others if they're interested, this is super low speed in a parking lot.

  7. Yep that's it, do you get the same in reverse?

  8. Yea, the first part of the video is me reversing out of a parking spot, and then the rest is me driving forward.

  9. Yup, that is the exact sound.

Good afternoon, please tell me how many kilometers of your Kona. Very scary to hear about technical problems in our cars. Why is Hyundai silent about this problem? Do you have the opportunity to contact the Hyundai company directly without a dealer?

  12. @Igor It's had it since about 3000km, it's at 6500 km now.

I don't think this is an immediate issue, just something that needs to be fixed. All cars and all new tech is going to have teething issues.

  13. Very clear audio there. I would describe the sound as a "knock" rather than a tick or clunk. It's not easy to narrow the location by the frequency because CV joints could knock several times a rev. But if it was later identified as a loose bearing at the gearbox input I would say that the noise would match. It sounds not much different than a worn ICE rod bearing.

Picked up my Kona with new 701 series engine installed, so far so good. The gear drive was not replaced. They said it was checked over and is OK. We shall see. Location Vancouver island , BC, Courtney.

Hyundai Canada is replacing the engine with a #701 series engine with a beefed up flange & larger bolts. I have heard that sometimes a new gear drive is required with the new engine.

  17. Any paperwork copy showing the new revision motor?

It just shows #36500 - OE701 for the replacement motor. I am holding my breath and hoping we don’t end up replacing the gear drive also in another month or so. However the Service Manager was excellent - a new motor installed in 4 days!

  19. Thanks for the video. Where in the motor compartment did you place it?

  20. Just got a call from my local dealer (Langley) and they just got in the parts for my motor replacement (confirmed as the 701). Scheduled it to be done next Tues. So will see. Interestingly, haven't heard the tick tick recently, even though it has been cool here lately.

  21. @Jamas I put it in the engine bay, it was held against one of the sides by a cable that was already there.

Is that 4 days including getting the part in, or it took them 4 days to swap the motor over. 4 days seems like a really long time to swap an electric motor over.

Wow, that's the best recording I've heard yet of this. Location, location, location!
