Carlos Ghosn's video message about the situation is linked below.

From what he says in the video, it was to be released only if he was unable to conduct his planned press conference. As reported previously in this thread, he was re-arrested before the date and time scheduled for the press conference.

Wow. I have as much in common with Carlos as the man in the moon, but if he had a defense fund I'd contribute. This man is being railroaded by a corrupt justice system. I dunno, somehow I thought MacArthur left them with a Western-style government after WW2. Apparently they forgot about a Bill of Rights.

Yeah. It is shocking how little rights the accused have under Japan's system of (in)justice.

You know, as much as I like my Leaf I find this whole story really off putting. If it weren't for Ghosn there would be no Leaf I'm sure. I got into EVs for many reasons and politics and a sense of justice are among them. When I'm through taking the depreciation down on my Leaf in 2022 Nissan will have been moved down the totem pole in my decision making for a replacement as a direct result of this horrid situation. I think I may write the dealer and Nissan Canada about it.

I suspect that the real reason for this railroad job is jealousy on the part of Japanese executives. They will be much happier with Ghosn out of the way and in jail so he can't go to work for a competitor.

Maybe there's a model Y in my future after all.

Looks like Ghosn is out on bail (¥500 million/$4.49 million). Weirdly, he is not allowed to have contact with his wife.

Quoting from the article you linked to:

Media reports have suggested her involvement in the latest accusation against him, and allegations that she may have attempted to tamper with evidence.

From that perspective, the restriction is understandable. (Note I didn't say the accusation was substantiated, nor that the restriction is fair.)

But I'm glad to see a report he's out on bond again.

To be clear: I gave gooki's post a thumbs-up because I appreciate him keeping us updated on this tragic story, not because I want to see the Renault-Nissan alliance crumble.

If Nissan executives wanted to dismantle the alliance, I think they could have found a better, less destructive and less unjust way to go about it. Manipulating the justice system in an attempt to ruin a man's life -- and health -- for no better reason than selfish political gain is unconscionable.

Ugh. This doesn't sound like a progressive move.

Fingers crossed he's a proponent of renewable electricity and electrification of transport. But I'm doubtful.

Time will tell, if Nissan pivots to Hydrogen Fuel Cell, or expand their electrification efforts.
