    Confusion looking up manufactures forums.

The titles of the forum heading should be simply Manufacturers so that all of the manufacturers are visible from that interface. It is confusing that Kia, Hyundai and a few others are not shown on that list. They are likely to be found under the popular forums heading but that is not where one expects them to be. If I am new here I would not know how to find those forums.

It is good to have a popular forums menu but the list should just be hyperlinks to the correct manufacturers forums.

    This would clarify navigation.

BTW I could not find a sub-forum for the Kia Soul.

  3. Point taken. We used the Popular Forums section and placed it near the top of the page because these forums were being visited more and so we wanted to make finding them easier. I do like this idea, though. That way all the manufactures could still be found in the manufacturer's section (in alphabetical order)

I've noticed recently any time I try to reply with a quote, but edit the quote, it doesn't work.

    1. Click the reply button on a post so it gets quoted.
    2. See the normal reply page, with the truncated quote and an edit link, and the cursor to type my reply.
    3. Click edit on the quote.
    4. Get a blank page. I think this is a style issue where the font is the same color as the background. If I hold to highlight (Android Firefox), it shows me whatever word it might autocorrect to, so I know the text is there even though I can't read it.

If I just post my comment with the unedited quote, though, everything works, then I can go back and edit my own post, and clicking 'edit' on the quoted section now works and I can actually see the text.

  5. I've passed this along to the developers. Hopefully, we can get a fix quickly.

  6. Thank you for such a detailed description of the error, but could you make a screen, for to sure know where is it?

This is after clicking 'edit' on a longer quote. Short quotes, though, like yours above, show up properly when attempting to edit.

Edit: another bug. Can't add attachments when editing a post. It says "need valid forum id!"

Can you please point me to the Kia Soul forum. I could not find it. Like to be able to discuss the 2020 Soul.

I suspect they start as manufacturer forums. Then after a sufficient number of vehicle specific posts, a sub-forum shows up. It is much more efficient than trying to cover the wide number of models, many not going anywhere.

I’d like to suggest the ‘news’ team record audio podcasts for those too busy driving our EVs. I’m OK with a short, 10-15 sec, ‘brought to you by’ at the end or beginning.

    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

  16. I like this idea. I think we're a bit overstretched at the moment, but I like the idea.

There are, as you may know, other podcasts available on YouTube -- I would most especially recommend Transport Evolved. I used to just download the audio file from YouTube (via browser add-on) and listen to it on the road.

Just a thought but reading for a podcast might be a final edit review. But it needs to be automated.

Whoops, got my 10 mi reserve. Back on the road again.

For a long time InsideEVs was my favorite web site. Now I am disappointed. electrek is now my number one go to and Teslarati second, so InsideEVs is now third. I actually like the articles at Teslarati best, very well written and since my interests include SpaceX it is well suited for me. However unlike electrek and InsideEVs, Teslarati has almost no user feedback. They made it very awkward and most articles have none and never more than 4 comments. I really like to be able to contribute and read other comments.

So this is to explain why I am disappointed in InsideEVs. Your site has degenerated into many low quality articles instead of fewer well researched and informative. I know if I use the term cli-- -ait a post will be automatically deleted, but that is what it has become. You post rumours as fact, short articles with no substance but maybe a question to generate feedback, and pure fiction. "Model 3 reportedly achieves 8k/wk production" - ascribed to Bloomberg who did no such thing. Bloomberg even has a disclaimer which you choose to ignore. "Tesla Model 3 stops to avoid accident" - possibly, but no fact checking, no statement from the driver, based on an outside observer who had no way of knowing if the driver stepped on the brake or not. Your journalistic integrity has sunk to new lows and you have chosen quantity over quality.

I have a different point of view:
    • PriusChat - owning a Prius Prime, I need to keep in touch with user experience to find the marginal performance areas. In particular, below 50F (10C), the control laws allow unnecessary ICE operation that thanks to our collaboration can be avoided.
    • MyBMWi3 - owning a BMW i3 REx, I need to keep in touch with user experience to find the marginal performance areas. In particular, improving efficiency and managing the ICE for blended operation.
    • InSideEVs - a collection or digest of other sources, it has a non-proprietary, broad coverage. It is common to find a lead to a more detailed article if there are questions. I also appreciate coverage of charger technology since both of my cars have plugs and EV operation depends on more than home charging.
All have good user interactions leading to collaboration on interesting problems. The mature moderators won't put up with trollish, inflammatory postings. They also support "ignore user", an individual squelch. But I have other sources:
    1. Guardian (fee based) - wide view of the world with detailed articles, many original.
    2. Yahoo News (free) - littered with teasers, they also collect articles from other news sources.
    3. Google News (free) - broken out as subsections, this avoids their "stove pipe" selected articles.
    4. Autoline TV (free) - seeing what traditional car owners think gives a clue to their view of efficient cars.
    5. Suggestions from others, trusted users.

  20. Roy,
    Thanks for sharing your feelings.
We are trying to offer a diverse range of articles on the news site. We still have some longer, more analytical-type posts and we hope to have more of that in the future. (We're hoping to recruit more contributors, because now we're stretched pretty thin.) Yes, we do have a good amount of short posts as well. Sometimes there's not a lot of text in a post, but for some things, not much text is needed -- we would just like to share, for instance, the latest pic of a popular upcoming vehicle. While some readers may not be interested in these, lots are, and that helps us keep the lights on. Our readership has grown tremendously over the past year or so.

We do not, I believe, post rumors as fact. If something is a rumor, it's stated. In the first example you cite, the Bloomberg tracker did show an 8,000-unit week and the piece added context to explain those numbers and what they might mean for quarterly production numbers. That's not a rumor. If I had of written it, I might have added more about Bloomberg's methods to explain this number was a result of added VINs, but the tracker does trim some of those extra VINs away in an attempt to reflect reality better, so it's hard to say what the exact number would have been for that week.

In the case of the avoided crash post, we think it's quite clear automatic emergency braking stopped the car. The offending car comes into the intersection quite late and from behind the field of view of the Tesla driver. If the Tesla driver had of seen them coming, they would not have begun to proceed into the intersection. The fact that the offending car is approaching from behind -- the streets of the intersection are not perpendicular -- adds to the certainty that the Tesla driver didn't see it coming. And, the fact that the car on the other side of the intersection, which had a much better view of the road where the offending car came from and still got tagged, speaks volumes. Sure, it would have been great to know who the driver was -- the original clip was actually out there for 3 months before it came to our attention -- but there was no direct way to track down the owner. In any case, everyone on our staff who watched the clip agreed it was an AEB activation that saved that person's bacon. We're actually quite surprised anyone is contesting that view.

Anyway, I hope you'll stick with us. I've shared your comment with the editorial staff, so they know how you feel. We recognize that you've been with us for some time now, and we do, actually, value your readership and participation in discussion on the site (and here!).

Well of course I don't agree with your viewpoint on Bloomberg, after all it says in large print about 5,500 cars/week, but I guess we will just disagree on that. The auto braking, yes we really don't know, but I have been in situations myself and with others driving just like that and stopped in time. You see it out of the corner of your eye and slam on the brakes, a normal reaction I think. But again just a difference of opinion.

However, I am happy to say that since then I have not seen any articles to complain about and I think the quality of the site has improved.

Is there an issue with auto-login on the forums and the login popup window?

The only URL that logs me in is https://www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php - if I go directly to any other forum page, I am not logged in. Plus, if I use the login on the top bar, it always tells me the password is wrong even when I know I am using the correct password.

Is this a bug or a feature? I am using Chrome and used to go directly to http://insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?forums/clarity.53/ before this problem started a few weeks ago.

  23. I had this happen to me yesterday. When I click on the logo on the top left, the site doesn't come up. It does when I click on any of the forums, and other menu links, though. I'm having the development team look into it.
