There's nothing like being next to a nice crackling fire...

  1. Makes sense and would explain why it would stop when the car was turned off. Was the charger a cheap knockoff from China?

There's no smell in the car now.

I did plug the charger back in and as soon as I did the tip started to get hot and smell.

It's something I got for free with my phone, iQ brand so probably cheap Chinese.

It's the usbC plug that melted, the test of the charger still works.

Glad that it was no problem with the car.. I was worried for a moment..

  5. Good pick up on the center console location, my original thoughts were below the floor based on the initial post.
At least all is well with the car and no one was hurt.

  6. Good news!
Quick question since this isn't really a warranty issue, did they charge you for the time?

Not really a surprise, given how much power the newer C gear is expecting
to push through those pitifully undersized wires and connectors. I'm glad
all my stuff is still micro-B... What more people should do, is wander through
their settings and rip down all the useless and privacy-invasive junk taking
processor time on their devices, so they're not having to charge so much.
I plug my android in once a week, if that.

  10. Any chance this cable was long enough that it was contacting water/salt on your passenger side floor mats causing a short?
