After I totaled out Kia Soul EV we picked up our 2022 Kia Niro EV in May of last year. We took it from Dallas back to central Illinois, out to Phoenix and over to Florida. This completely rendered our road trip Clarity’s gas engine redundant and a maintenance liability. When Tesla drastically dropped prices in January we decided to place an order for a Model Y. We managed to get in before any of the subsequent price increases and between tax credit and price drop saved $20,500. We took delivery mid-March and handed over keys to the Clarity to Tesla. (See my post in the Clarity forum if you know someone in the Rockwall, TX area looking for a Clarity she has a full tank of Buc-ee’s Ethanol Free gas)
Congrats with your new toy! Same here, switched from Clarity to Model Y. 2 things to get b4 you'll regrets. Mud flaps and rear door panel PPF's. You'll get tons of stone chips in the rear door panel.
Thanks for the heads up. Also they need to warn people how high the hatch opens. I have a boo boo in the hatch already . Should have just done full car PPF but it is just SO much money.
Overall I like it. At the price point it was at it was hard to pass up. Some very minor stuff: I miss the collaborative LKAS that the Clarity or Niro EV has vs Autopilot in some ways. I wish I had the USS Park sensors as right now Vision based park assist is failing to impress me. I think I would rather have 360° camera but I also understand that’s hard with no nose camera. The parcel shelf can’t fold up and out of the way or I am doing it wrong as it hits interior trim. The fender to a-pillar gap on passenger side is way too tight and is going to wear away the paint and cause possible corrosion. So it’s very hard to get a picture of it. I have a service appointment for that. The back of the fenders in the door area are not painted well or hidden with beauty plastic so that lowers the aesthetic with the doors open ever so slightly.
I would jump at the chance to get CarPlay in the car. I would still prefer to have regular manual vents and a physical button for the mirrors though that is less of an issue than I thought it would be. There are a lot of things I would love to have software wise: ⭐️ CarPlay ⭐️ 1. Super chill mode 2. Checkbox option under settings for >90% accelerator application giving full power regardless of mode 3. Instead of 1 or 2 custom mapping of accelerator pedal 4. Tunable lane positioning for Autosteer I want 1 or 2 clicks away from center in far right/left lanes. 5. Checkbox for collaborative mode for Autosteer
Ahh yes, perfection is NOT in Elon's handbook. As of hatch, you can always adjust to your height. If you are a DIY peson, you can always get pre-cut PPF's. It's much cheaper.
Negative, no 360 view. But, it comes with fnt, rear, left and right side cams for parking / driving. Late 2022, Tesla removed USS sensor went ahead with vision.
