I know a few of us on here have passed the one-year mark with our Konas. Now we belong on the benches in front of the Post Office chewing 'baccy and talking about the old days when the touchscreen was no bigger than a skunk's behind.

I bought mine two or three days after learning about its existence in Canada. I'd owned Priuses since they came on the scene in 2001, and I was clearly ready to take the full EV leap, because the price was nearly double what I had ever paid for a car. After a year I have no regrets. I'm lucky to have access to (so far) free fast chargers, so fuel costs are basically what I pay to top up at home. Consequently I've done far more driving to enjoy the countryside. It’s enormous free fun.

The active membership in this forum is a testimony to the car's appeal, over and above its drivetrain. Maybe it's the punk appearance.

I have quibbles, of course. The gear selector is reduced to the drab world of buttons and besides that is poorly laid out. As for the myriad other controls, Hyundai has stuck to the principle that nothing to do with the operation of the car itself (except charge management) shall be relegated to the touchscreen. The result is, let's face it, clutter, including a whole group of buttons between the driver and the door that are very difficult to see, and some seldom used controls such as toggles for collision warnings that could certainly be grouped on the screen.

My worst complaint is that Hyundai has simply not delivered on two important systems: maps, which for my region are many years out of date and especially useless for charge points; and Bluelink, which sometimes eventually works and sometimes doesn't.

The positives rule, though. The clutter is a cozy one, and it's all about getting a comfortable ride on the magic carpet. :)

  3. My Kona has no NAV, nor app. I didn't even think to ask when I bought it. I just assumed that a $75k car would have everything and was dazzled by the range and inclusion of the all-important heat pump.
I did a 300km day trip yesterday and was reminded how superior the Kona EV is on the road over most ICE cars. It really is a magic carpet ride, and one that very few other drivers know is an EV.
I'm not crazy about the variation in font sizes over the screens, the worst being the microscopic "kWh/100km" on the trip display. The Power page on the center screen is poorly designed as well.

Heh, just the other day I found a screen I can't remember seeing before -- the map of the gps satellites.

  5. We didn't have any other choice at the time but to purchase the high end model including all the, shall we say " redundant accessories". At the time it was $8K less than M3 which body style didn't work for me but obviously better software etc.
If roads/subdivisions are changing as fast as where you are located as they are here, the maps would have to be updated monthly just to keep up.
Bluelink works somewhat reminiscent as I do these days, as you describe "sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.:)
I tell every one who asks if I am happy with my car - absolutely

The Tesla wasn't even on my radar and I'd been waiting to look at something more dog-friendly. I sat in a Leaf but wasn't inspired. The Kona had a HUD to replace the nice eyes-up binnacle on the Prius, and I made sure it was compatible with polarized sunglasses, unlike the Prius. A sunroof and a terrier-sized boot completed the checklist.

As it happens, I quickly found the HUD unnecessary as even my old eyes can see the digital speedo easily.

  8. I only use the HUD when utilizing the Nav(out of date as it is), still a nice interaction easier than the center screen alone.

I only have mine since 6/28 but have accumulated more miles than most in North America.. 21300 miles so far and zero issues. No reduction in range and other than the FCA warning when the windshield fogs up, I had no problems. Love the Android Auto integration. Have not had any issues lately with my Regen setting resetting. Only thing that is not trouble free is Bluelink. Many issues since the last update.

  10. I had to reset day before yesterday as both Ecco and Normal regen dropped back one level as usual....

I wonder if anybody ever reported that to Hyundai..

  13. I will report it when I take the car in late this month for annual service along with the blackout dash screen issue, but with intermittent software issues like this unlikely anything will get resolved.
