For the last 5 days, I exclusively drove around town as my wife had surgery and I'm working from home this week as I have to drop off at and pick up the kids from school every day. So, I have been doing that since last Friday and my average mi/kwh has been 5.6.. My 80% range is at 270 miles right now.. That's pretty impressive.. I did not try to specifically drive economic.. I just drive normal.. 90% range shows 307 miles but 100% range only shows 318 miles.. It appears that the 100% range only changes if you charge to 100% while 90% and 80% range change as your driving habits change. My 100% has shown 318 miles already when my 80% range was 243 miles. Now, my 80% range is at 270 and my 100% range still shows 318 miles.. (The way I get 90% and 100% range is by setting my DC charging to 100% and it will display the expected range at the set percentage.. Interestingly, the 100% range is always the same while the 80% and 90% range vary..

I might try charging to 100% today to see if the actual full charge range will be different from the 318 mile estimate. Like I said, the 100% estimate has not changed in weeks, probably since the last time I charged to 100%. I haven't charged to 90% in probably 3 weeks and yet, the 90% range has changed while the 100% range didn't. It doesn't really make sense that the 90% range is 307 and the 100% range is 318. 10% of range would be about 34 miles (using the 90% estimate). So, if 90% is 307 mile range, 100% would have to be 341 mile range and not 318
Charging right now. Estimate still shows 318 mile range at 100% yet the range at 95 percent already shows 324 miles. Looks like a software issue..
Your photo displays the energy information window, which indicates typical distances available at differing levels of charge, AC and DC, based on current battery capacity. This info is unrelated to that shown in the dash display, which is calculated from recent driving history. My Kona energy window data, at 100%, shows 511km (317.4ml) like yours, and is unchanging, though in years to come it will decline as the battery ages...
Why would only the 100% charge estimate be unchanged? If I change to charge to 80 or 90% reapectively, the estimate for those changes but the estimate for full charge stays the same.
In the console energy info window, I see 317ml @ 100%, 302ml @ 90%, 266ml @ 80%, 230ml @ 70%, 194ml @ 60%, 161ml @ 50% and so on.... These are unchanging values in my Kona, and again are just general advice applicable to all Kona EVs. On the dash my GOM estimate shows between 550-560km (342-348ml) @ 100% every time, a small variation reflecting my consistent driving - at lower levels of charging, I see a similarly small variation in the range estimate. Note that you will see a much smaller difference between the 100% and 90% values in both displays, than between any other pair of percentage levels..
A bunch of things, I think - years of hyper-miling Priuses, 50-60kph urban speed limits, mostly urban driving along with 1-2 million locals, regen level 3 exclusively, SCC at the slightest opportunity even in town, and fairly flat country. I also find the Kona very efficient after 4 years with a gen 1 Leaf. Nor do we have interstate speeds, the 100kph limit is more or less observed, and I can sit all day on SCC set at 95kph without holding up highway drivers, which allows sitting well back behind big rigs which are limited to 90..
I have managed to drive 358.8 actual miles on one charge with 29 mile remaining on the GOM just by limiting my highway speed to 55 mph and normal city driving.. Of course, I did not use the AC or heater for that but I did not do anything unusual.. My commute is fairly flat with a 50 feet difference in sea level between my house and my office..
My current levels are very close to yours.. However, after longer higher speed road trips, my 80% range has dropped as low as 240 miles.. Yesterday, I was at 270 mile at 80% and today, this has dropped to 265 miles at 80% because I drove 60 miles on the highway @65 mph..
Nope, I didn't give you any values of mine - what I listed were the standard distances in the console energy info window provided by Hyundai. Your own values from the GOM on the dash will change all the time depending (mainly) on the speed you drive at. These are also displayed (see #4 photo) in the Range row of the console window, but are not to be confused with the AC charging advice in the bottom line of the console, which comes from Hyundai and is nothing to do with your car ..
Why are the charging range estimates accurate to 80 and 90% but not to 100%. My 100% estimate is always 318 miles while the 80% and 90% estimate vary over time and are accurate. If I drive for 200 miles and run the battery down to 10 percent and then charge to 80%, the range when charged to 80 or 90% will match the estimate for both, 80 and 90% charging while the one for 100% does not match. It always stays at 318 miles range while the actual range at 100% varies. As I said, my 80% range estimate has been as low as 240 miles and as high as 270 miles.. See below.. my current 80% estimate is 264 miles. It was 270 2 days ago.. My 90% estimate is 301. It was 307 2 days ago but my 100% estimate is always at 318. Actual range at 100% shows 338 (it did show 339 briefly when I turned on the car but dropped after a few seconds)
You are hopeless confused about what the console energy info window is telling you - the 318ml reference is NOT a range estimate for your Kona. To get a current range estimate for your car at any time or state of charge, use ONLY the dash display behind the steering wheel..
The number on the dash only indicates the range at the current SoC. The range estimate for AC/DC charging IS accurate on my car for any SoC other than 100%. 100% ALWAYS shows 318 mile range when full.. The estimation for sub 100% charging is 100% accurate for me.. If I park my car and I'm for example at 50% SoC and my charging estimate shows me 245 miles at 80% charge, this number is accurate on my car. If I would hook up the car at that point in time and charge to 80%, my car WILL display 245 mile range when charged to 80%. Same goes for any number sub 100%. The estimation is accurate in my car except for 100%. As I said before, my 80% and 90% estimation varies all the time but the 100% number is always the same.
Today is my last day of almost exclusive city driving. My 80% range is now at 277 miles.. My 90% estimate is 315 miles and 100% estimate did not change at all (as expected) and is still at 318 miles, just 3 miles more than the estimated 90% range..
hieronymous, would you consider trying regen level 0 for a while, being completely confident that using the service brake pedal is not sacrificing any energy, and see if you do any better? If I was driving around in the flatlands of FL on secondary roads I"d probably be north of 6 for most of my trips... _H*
My best mi/kwh around town was 6.4.. My typical mi/kwh around town is between 5.3 and 6.0. Today, I drove 125 miles, 90% highway @ 70 mph with no AC or heater and I averaged 4.4 mi/kwh..
I usually get an average of 4.7 per kwh at about 60/50 highway,city. I inflated my tires to about 38psi and now I get about 5mi per kwh. It was about 35psi before. No ac or heater. I recently did a 250mile freeway round trip and got 4.3mi/kwh at avg of 70mph speed...again no ac/heater...
I have not reset my trip odometer for 11k miles and it now shows 1000 miles after it rolled 9999 miles. The average however is still calculated for the last 11k miles and my 11k mile average is 4.8 mi/kwh which includes several road trips at higher speeds. My tires are inflated to 40 psi right now.
