Wow!! Congrats on the second EV!! It will be good to know the differences between each other. I also have 2 dogs and went with the Kona as I think they’ll for better there than a leaf or a bolt.. good to know the soul is spacious too. I may check it out!

Well it is certainly roomier for the dog crates. It is only day three for owning so no new comments other than my husband took it out shopping and for a run on the freeway yesterday. No complaints at all and he said he prefers driving the Soul so far. Found less noise on the freeway than the Kona, but we have different tires on the Kona i.e. Michelin CrossClimates. We will be getting Michelin's soon for the Soul so I will be able to compare noise level when they arrive. I'm surprised more people are not grabbing it as the 2020 Soul EV's seem readily available here in smaller battery premium and the larger battery limited--while there are wait lists for the Kona. It may be looks I am thinking? I like the funky Soul look, but I think there are many that may not.

Just a comment on the Michelin CrossClimate tires that we have on the Kona EV. When we bought the Kona EV we never experienced the Nexen tires as we had the Michelin's put on straight away before we brought it home. So I couldn't compare the noise level of the Michelin's versus the Nexen. Today we put the Nexen's fromm the Soul EV onto the Kona EV and the Michelin's onto the Soul EV. The Nexens are quieter by far on the Kona, but the grip on the road is noticeably different. It was steady rain and the Nexen seemed to lock up on the right front with a sudden stop in the rain. This doesn't occur with the Michelin tires. I think I feel more secure with the Michelin tires versus the Nexen tires. Husband drove the Soul EV home with the Michelins on it and said the noise was louder than with Nexens but nothing annoying to him.

  6. So back to OEM Nexen 215 55R17 on Kona . Still have your originals which I am saving for a trip someday ( They will get thrashed ). I always preferred Michelin for their handling on my Leafs. I agree the Nexens are a little soft . OT-Have you come up with a name for your Soul yet?

I am still not settled with a name for my Soul lol. The Hulk or Kermit perhaps. I would say the Kona EV handles more like a sportscar (we have had a few in our day starting with Volvo P1800, MGBGT, and some nameless Fiat). The Soul EV is more enjoyable for both of us due to the head and legroom issues, but I can see where there is a that sports car feel with the Kona EV that is quite desirable.

Yes, our Winter tires with the triple-peak and snowflake symbol are noisier than our OEM low rolling resistance all-season tires. Guess that just comes with their grippier tread. Have been thinking about trying one of the Cross-Climate, Goodyear Assurance or a Nokian WRG4 All-Weather tires in 215/55R17 just to save the hassle of changing tires 2x per year. Also, we don't drive the car that much so two sets of tires (winter/summer) age out before they wear out. But was hoping the All-Weathers might be a bit less noisy than dedicated Winter tires.

  10. I have Michelin Xice I3 tires for winter. There's no real noise difference.

  11. We don't get a lot of snow in winter where I live, and our other car is a Subaru, so we use that if we have to. There were only a couple days last winter, that we didn't drive our previous Prius because of snow/ice. So it would be waste to get snow tires for our Kona.

We just put the Michelin CrossClimate tires on the Soul EV and that was the sound increase I referred to. Love the tires for safety and grip as we had them on for the past winter snowy days and they were super.

We are in White Rock area and the Michelin CC's were great on our Kona EV and made all the difference in last winter's snow falls. Loved them.

We had the Nokian All Weather tires on our last SUV and they were great for driving, but noise did increase slightly. Not enough not to buy them in the future though.

    Better in the rain, too.
Rain rather more common than snow.

Excellent comment! Worth their price for sure. We stick to the road so much better in the rain with them.

We have had our 2019 Kona EV Ultimate since February 2019. We got our 2020 Soul EV in July 2019. My husband was going to trade the Kona EV for a Lincoln Aviator PHEV when they come out . Seems they will be running close to $100,000(sort of his bucket dream car so he is bummed about the reality he faced) . So that is out of the question. Today we traded the 2019 Kona EV for another 2020 Soul EV. We need two cars and we love the Soul EV so we decided to see what kind of deal we could swing. We don't qualify for any rebates so that was a bummer. We asked for Michelin CrossClimates to be thrown in. We had to pay $5800 for the Soul EV whose price is roughly $54,000 before taxes. I don't usually disclose money things on the internet, but I know everyone will be really curious to know how trade ins go. We have driven the Soul EV for almost two months and still prefer the easy entry and exit to the car without banging our heads, it has a softer suspension which we like, the extra head room that fits our dog crates better and the nav system is superior with a larger screen and excellent traffic and weather info. The Kona EV is more stable on winding roads and feels more sports car like. But we are past our sports car days and find comfort is more important. I will keep reading here on occasion to see all of you are doing. Best regards to all of my friends here. (Mileage on our Kona EV was 4600 kilometers). New Soul EV is white as we had two colours available white and grey. Our "old" 2020 Soul EV is space green and eye popping which is proving to be good as I find less tail gating happening with that colour.

  19. Pretty good for trade in c/w Cross Climates . Surprised no Rebates - Federal or Provincial.

We were told that we didn't qualify for the Federal $5000 one as we took it in both our names when we bought the Soul EV in July. Both our names was on the insurance thus eliminating us from getting it. We have used the BC rebate once in my name on the Kona and once in husband's name on the Soul. I'm trying to research the Federal regulation without much luck.

  21. There must be a timeline on the provincial as I have received it 3 times, each time 2.5 - 3 yrs apart ($5k each time). Missed the federal one by 2 months (and a couple of days) early:rolleyes:

Well we had a big snafu today. Went in for the arranged appt. with a certified cheque and the Kona all spiffy and cleaned up. Turns out we and salesman had our wires crossed. I assumed (never assume anything) he knew we were negotiating for a 64 kWh model as that is what we bought in July. He assumed we wanted the 39 kWh model. We backed away as the added cost to us now was $16,000 versus $5000. And on top of that we were told the BC Gov't would ask us to repay the rebate we were given in February as it was less than a year since buying. What a mess it was. But I am a big believer that things happen for a reason so it was a waste of several hours, but we learned for next time to see all the preliminary paper work instead of just getting a copy of the amount that we would owe. So we still have a Kona EV and a Soul EV. Life is still good. Both are better than those stinky petrol fuel cars out there. lol
