Would you be able to share email quote you got from them or anything that I can use to negotiate with the dealerships around my area? TIA!

Your best bet will be to get a quote for yourself from El Cajon, or any other dealer anywhere in California. I don't think most dealers will respond to waving someone else's price in front of them. But if they know that you have a quote from another dealer they are more likely to take it seriously. I don't know how far you are from El Cajon, but if you get a good quote from them then you can tell your local dealer that you are thinking about driving to El Cajon but would prefer to purchase from them, ask them how close can they get to that price.

Just got the clarity base model from Ocean Honda in Westminster, Ca. They matched the Costco price of $26,299 plus tax, finance, license fee. Didn't have a choice on the theft that's added but they charged me 50% less for that. Went with the white/beige interior. Added the paint and fabric scotchguard protection with 25% off discount for Costco members. Bummer it tales 4hrs so I'll pick up my car tomorrow. Sales rep was Sean, no pressure and very helpful.

I don't have any email but if you call costco and ask them to assign you to El Cajon Honda. The representative will call and schedule an appointment and they will give you a print out with invoice price and costco pricing which will be very close to the price I listed and on top if it you can bargain for $500 less or so. You can also take that and negotiate with other dealers.

People have reported that in many cases when going through Costco that dealers are more likely to be willing to pass along the $5,000 dealer incentive, on top of the standard Costco discount. If the first dealer that you try doesn't seem to be willing then it's worth getting assigned to a different Costco dealership and giving them a try. Or, once you have the first Costco dealer quote, get a list from Costco of other dealers within driving distance that participate in the program. You would have to call them to get this as it's not listed on the website. Then contact those dealers directly and tell them that you have a quote from another Costco dealer who is only giving the standard Costco discount but not adding in the $5,000, will they? Even if they don't give you the full $5,000 they still might give you a substantially lower price.

Also check for other incentives. You can do a local search in this site. I notice some areas have teachers and first responder discounts. UC employees may still a discount too.

This could potentially be the best known deal for a new Clarity. To help others maybe get something even close, if you don't mind providing a few of the details like mfg date (located on door jamb), mileage, color and the state where the dealer was located where you purchased it from. Also any junk fees like documentation fee. If you prefer to just put all the numbers up feel free and we can figure it out from there.

Also in another thread you mentioned that it included $899 Accessory Package which you apparently weren't charged for, but it's listed? They don't state anywhere what it is? If not then it's likely a collection of Honda optional accessories as seen on the website with prices when you build a vehicle, you might be able to look at the list on the Honda website and figure out where the $899 comes from. Was the listed MSRP $34,295? If it was higher then they may have added the accessory package to MSRP which can happen if the package is added at the port of entry not at the dealer.

Good idea! The one I purchased is black exterior with the black/dark interior. It had a total of 6 miles on it when I purchased (was it only test driven once?) The mfg date is 10/2018 so it seems to be one of the later 2018 models, and I purchased it from Florida. On the numbers page in my contract it has a Dealer Installed Accessories section but the value is left blank with no entries in there. When I took delivery of the car there was some small paper in the glovebox with a Honda logo that had a list (of 1 item) which stated "Appearance Package" and a value of $899. That's when I realized that when I Google'd 'Black Honda Clarity' the pictures online didn't show the additional silver door trim that mine had. Let me know if there's any more information I can provide.

    Price of Vehicle: 24098.28
    "Dealer Services": 799.00
    State tire fee: 5.00
    State battery fee: 1.50
    State Sales Tax: 1494.23 (6%)
    Estimated tag fees: 300.00
    Electronic CVR fee: 199.99
    Doc Stamp fee: 80.50
    Lemon Law fee: 2.00

Total price out the door: $26980.50

(I actually saved some money too, because they're registering the car for me but my state actually has a "penalty" you have to pay if you register an electric or hybrid vehicle. Doesn't look like I'm having to pay that though.)

Is there an MSRP listed on the invoice? It should be a number $34,295 or higher. Didn't the car also have the main "sticker", the one that is sometimes displayed in the window, showing all of the features? Is the same MSRP amount shown on the sticker as on the invoice?

On the Honda website there is this list of optional accessories, maybe you can figure out which of these came on your car and would account for the $899

    Body Side Molding $217
    Decklid Spoiler $299
    Door Edge Film $42
    Door Trim - Chrome $285
    Rear Bumper Applique $62
    Splash Guard Set $104
    Wheel Locks $56
    All-Season Floor Mats – High-Wall $155
    Cargo Hooks $12
    Cargo Net $49
    Center Console Mat $25
Door Sill Trim - Illuminated $290
    Seat Covers - Rear $250
    Trunk Tray $140

The MSRP doesn't seem to be listed on my invoice, and I actually bought the car sight unseen, when it was delivered to me it didn't have a sticker price on it. The webpage listing the car is of course now removed from the website, but I think I still have it open on one of my computers at home. I will try to reference it and see if I can find what the MSRP was listed at. I would say with 85% confidence it was $34,295 though (I think I would've been caught off guard if it was listed above $35k when all the other dealerships I looked at had it at $34,295).

Briefly looking through that list, I'm not sure I have any of those. I initially thought the "Door Trim - Chrome" must be what I have, but that seems to be on the lower part of the door and my "trim" is on the upper part. I'm away from the car for a few days, but when I'm back I can more thoroughly check through that list of accessories and also snap a picture of the paper that lists the $899 package if that helps. I would love to figure out what it actually is too.

The Monroney sticker is required to be affixed to the side window or windshield of every new car sold in the United States and can only be removed by the consumer (Chapter 28, Sections 1231-1233, Title 15 of the United States Code).

Thanks for pointing that out. I just googled "Monroney sticker" and realized what it was (first time buying a new car...), I do actually have that sheet. It wasn't affixed to the window and I didn't realize it was a sticker to be honest. It was just sitting folded up in a folder in the car, I'll check that when I get home though because I still have it.

Its probably just a dealer price padding item with minimal if any actual things installed. The one I bought had $2k for "aircraft grade paint protection" and window tinting.

I guess they can use the padding items in negotiation or remove/ discount it to pretend they're lowering the price for clueless buyers.

Like you (I think), they didn't mention it or try to get me to pay anything for it, I was given OTD price. They did make me pay for the window tint.

Double checked and confirmed $34,295. Also here is a picture of the car from the lot, which shows the silver trim on the door just below the windows so you can at least see what I'm talking about.

Can't see close up but that seems to be more like some type of pinstriping? Either way it looks like something added locally. You probably should just call the dealer and ask them what all was included in the $899 appearance package, just for your own curiosity (well okay for our curiosity also!) even if you didn't pay for it, one day you will sell or trade the car and it's nice to know what extras it might have on it. My guess is that since the only thing you can find that "appears" to be different is the pinstriping then probably the remainder of the $899 appearance package was paint sealing or something like that. Good to know that also as it would mean you probably won't need to wax it for a couple of years depending on how long it holds up.

I'll just set aside the $899 appearance package since apparently whatever it was you weren't charged for. Below is the my estimated calculation of your discount, including what I think are almost certainly junk fees, defined as fees that go to the dealer not to any government agency, and thus are part of the dealer price, just more cleverly hidden.

    "Dealer Services": 799.00
This for sure is a junk fee, sometimes called the "documentation fee" it started life many years ago as a small fee (around $20) that dealers charged for handling your registration paperwork. Which is really part of their cost of doing business and should have been included in the price of the car, but hey it's only $20 who notices or really cares. But over the years dealers experimented with how high they could raise this and get away with it, and to their delight found that most car buyers assumed it was a legitimate fee since it sounds official and was next to tax and title etc., so essentially the sky is the limit, I have heard of $1,000 plus fees. However many states cap this, like I think it's currently capped at $85 in California. In Georgia we suffer high documentation/dealer processing fees also similar to Florida. The dealer won't remove it even if you call them on it, you just have to be aware of it and think of it as part of the dealer price and make sure that their price including documentation fee (and other junk fees) is still a good deal.

    Electronic CVR fee: 199.99
Junky, junky, junky. The dealer pays a fee to a third party company who is licensed with the state to provide an electronic system for processing the registration. The fee they pay per vehicle is minimal, and again is part of their cost of doing business, yet they love to make the customer not only pay their fee for them, but charge a boatload of markup on top of it. From what I understand the third party company may also be getting a cut of the profits when the dealer marks it up. I have never seen one this high though, but again we live in unregulated markets so dealers can have a field day with officially looking fees.

But still your price is really great and was certainly worth either flying to Florida and driving the car back or paying shipping fees like you did (people were doing that with Prius Prime also when there were huge factory incentives in some east coast states).

Here is what I come up with:

    2018 Base
Black, mfg 10/18, 6 miles, Florida
    MSRP 34,295
    Dealer price 24,098
    Dealer Services 799.00
    Electronic CVR fee 199.99
    Total dealer price 25,096
    Discount 9,199

I have seen a few higher discounts than that, but only by a few hundred dollars. Truly a great price, congratulations!
