What colour did you order. My friend ordered a red one on April 18 in Duncan and hasn’t heard anything
Interesting. What trim? I ordered preferred but May 3rd and am now being told January 2020. Seems like all the April orders being delivered were preferred’s
So I have good news now! The Sales Admin from Gyro Hyundai sent an email a couple days back which reads, in part: "Your 2019 Kona EV Preferred in blue with Two-Tone roof is currently at the port in Vancouver where it will be loaded onto a train and railed to Toronto. Once it lands, it will be loaded onto a transport truck destined for Gyro Hyundai. We should expect to see the vehicle on our lot within 3-4 weeks. " She goes on to give me a heads-up on the VIN so I can get some insurance set up. Now I feel confident enough to contract for some exterior electrical work at my house, which has to happen before I can get a Level 2 charger, as well. I'm pretty happy with the timing -- if I get a vehicle by the end of July, having test-driven and ordered near the end of April, I think electric vehicles can begin to build up momentum in the marketplace.
Wow that is someone on the ball with updates! When we were waiting in the old days of the Fall of 2018, we had members trying to look up what ships had sailed from South Korea and then arrived at Annacis Island in Vancouver. We even had a member drive by with binoculars looking off into the lot for our Kona's. That was the way we got our info. in the old days. Similar to messages on the drums. I don't believe any of us ever got an email! lol
Well, I ordered May 19th.. and I was told won’t get here until the end of the year or January.. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
LOL! I actually blamed my wife for it as I saw it at the end of April and she wanted to see it before preordering.. we took forever (almost a month) as she was saying is only a 2 month wait.. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I had to drive the gas version to see if the body style etc would work back in July/18 and I hated it, but I knew the electric version would would be just fine, which it has.
I see Hyundai has opened a new market in India for the Kona electric with no apparent plans for increased production, very odd. I am starting to think Hyundai has no significant intention to sell BEV vehicles in any meaningful manner. It makes you wonder if one should be looking at another manufacturer, very discouraging.
I don’t remember where I read a couple of weeks ago about Hyundai starting renos to double the capacity of their production of EVs. It was a note mostly saying they know the market is increasing and the demand is there. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I'm not sure what "serious" means in this example. Hyundai is an established car maker that has entered the EV market at a scale that seems far greater and more ambitious than other legacy makers. Their future plans also seem like they are realistic and point to expansion in EVs. From my experience "not serious" seems to mean "not specifically flooding the US market". There's a big world out there outside of the US that's much more receptive to EVs. I don't blame them one bit for spreading the love (and constrained production) around.
Also remember that Europe sales are over the roof, glad I’m not in Norway or the UK where they can’t even preorder right now... https://www.electrive.com/2019/05/05/hyundai-kona-electric-car-supply-running-low-in-europe/ Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I am not sure what you mean when you quote me with your own words but I suppose the meaning is similar. Unfortunately I still believe "Hyundai has no significant intention to sell BEV vehicles in any meaningful manner". Despite manufacturing the Kona for over a year, Hyundai can apparently only manage 2500 units per month for worldwide export yet they continue to make all sort of wonderful announcements on opening new sales markets with no apparent plan for how they will meet the demand in these markets. There is a disconnect here that is little more than confusing.
Does anyone know of Konas, either trim level actually on a lot in BC right now? I have a friend who’s ICE is dying and wants to buy a Kona but can’t wait 6-8 months. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
