Wait until Monday before purchasing your Kona (or any EV).

    Quotes from the story:

"Talks between the federal and provincial governments appear to have sputtered on launching a national electric vehicle strategy.

A joint agreement addressing vehicle electrification is expected to be unveiled Monday when transport and highway safety ministers meet in Montreal for their annual meeting.

Sources say Ottawa wants to put something aggressive on the table. That could take the form of an electric vehicle (EV) sales mandate requiring a percentage of sales to be vehicles that don’t emit carbon pollution linked to climate change, or rebates that help lessen the burden of new EV costs for Canadians."

I want able to catch the news .Do you know what happened with that announcement?

  5. Nothing. The anti global warming premiers stonewalled it and the Feds are going back to the drawing board. Probably won't announce anything before the Federal budget and only then if it suits their election plans.

I guess dinasour Doug must have some pull with the feds . Sad to see!!!

  8. It's not pull, it's push. The Feds could drop their portion of the HST tomorrow if they actually wanted to make a stand.

Maybe Justin should ask his mother to see what she would do?

  10. Hi. It's your friendly moderator stopping by to remind everyone that we are a community of people with assorted political leanings despite being united by our interest in EVs. To keep the conversation from going off the rails too much, I just want to suggest we don't spend too much time talking about particular people in politics. Instead, let's try to keep the focus on policy.

Of course, there will be jabs at politicians, but let's not get carried away with them. Also, let's try to laugh with our fellow member's jabs, even if they're hating on people we voted for.

    *jumps down from soapbox.

  13. No, everything and everyone is cool. Just saying, so it (hopefully) stays that way. :)

Any of you new Kona EV owners notice whether your window sticker shows "Non-CFC" air conditioning ? Noticed this on a 2019 Kona (gasoline) Essential AWD in the Calgary dealer lot where I placed my order:

(per Google) "Non-CFC refrigerants do not damage the ozone layer and do not contribute to global warming." ... "Non-CFC chillers tend to out-perform existing CFC chillers by reducing electrical demand...."

Does the dealer still have the right to charge the $100. A/C tax ? Just trying to keep my out-the-door price in the high $56K range.

That's an interesting question. I believe Hyundai pays an excise tax to the federal government and then charges an amount above the MSRP to the dealer. The dealer charges the customer $100. Not sure how much the original excise tax is. It appears the definition for an AC unit does not include any definition of refrigerant type but simply an AC unit fitted to a vehicle (A hearse is excluded though, a loophole you might exploit!)

And no automatic powered mirrors to fold them up. But I guess if you are in Eastern Canada or the prairies that might be a good thing.

All in (not counting rebate) for a Red Kona Preferred in Grimsby, just under $52k. Trouble is, I'm only supposed to get it in December, so we'll see if I get the EV rebate or not...fingers crossed the elections don't mess it up, as I was screwed out of $14k for a Chevy Bolt last year :(.

  19. Rob, curious when did you order yours?

I suspect even if the liberals leave power they won't change EV rebate until the new budget, total speculation on my part.

I ordered the Kona in May. I wouldn't count on that.. the provincial conservatives who won in Ontario didn't even have a budget for another 8 or 9 months, and they scrapped the EV incentives within their first month in power. Even though I had ordered my Bolt back in April 2018, they said only vehicles delivered and plated before Sep 10 (I believe) would be eligible, and my Bolt was only going to come in Oct or later. PCs are so anti-carbon tax and in denial of climate change, it seems like one of the first things they'd scrap.

  21. The reason I asked is that folks who ordered in early May seem to be getting their cars late August/September, perhaps yours will arrive sooner than later.

Looking back at my contract, I actually ordered on April 27. Do you know what model and colour the other people ordered? I was told at the dealership that they do them in colour batches, and I ordered mine in red. I think that I also read somewhere that they do the batches regionally every 3 months or so, so Sep-Dec would be 3 months.. really hoping I don't get screwed out of the EV rebate (if conservatives win) due to a dumb thing like colour choice! Hah

  23. At least a couple of folks in the Canadian delivery time thread who ordered May 3 rd have go their VINs and are expecting delivery at the end of this month. Jared Potter is getting a red preferred..
