Unless your insurance had the rider for full replacement value you may be out money. Insurance payout will be for FMV at the time of the accident. Leaf’s are notorious for depreciating like crazy in the first year. Say car cost $40k ($46k after tax), fmv after 4 months is only about $22-24k and insurance won’t pay you tax on that. So basically you are only getting about 50% what you paid. Per the rebate conditions, you would also owe the rebate back if you don’t fix that car up and get it back on the road. Replacement vehicle wouldn’t get a rebate as the program is over. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Weird. I have not received the rebate yet but I just received a letter like yours that starts off declaring the end of the Cap & Trade program and cancellation of the rebate program. It then goes on to warn about needing to keep the car for a minimum of 12 months or else the rebate must be reimbursed. This requirement is not surprising. Receiving the letter without any money is especially when I opted for the direct deposit option. Hoping the snail mail beat the digital deposit somehow...
That's incorrect. My agreement was based on a program in law, that cannot be retroactively discarded Ha ha. Yes, the threats and enforcement department is fully staffed and the rebates department is one disgruntled employee with a 1970s voice message machine with a tape deck.
That's incorrect. My agreement was based on a program in law, that cannot be retroactively rescinded, any more than they can say in January that they amended the tax laws and that deduction for an expense you had the previous year is no longer valid. Nonetheless, since it took so long for them to get me the rebate, there is little chance I can sell the car prior to the one year commitment. The point is, the government is more focused on hostility towards those following the incentives put in place by a government they have political differences with.
I submitted my application on June 9th, so passed the 6 month point and still nothing. Have received the same non-answers through inquiry. Has anyone that submitted in June received a rebate yet?
My friend purchased her BMW i3 a week before I did. Hers was mid-May and she rec'd her rebate about 3 weeks ago. This is her second EV. I bought my BMW a week later May 30, submitted on June 3 and have nothing yet, now being Dec 17. So over 6 months for me now and still waiting. I hope it's soon, really soon...like today?
How did your friend find out when she received it? Did the money just pop in her account or did she receive a letter or call? I keep checking my bank balance daily hoping to see it there but I don't know what the process really is.
What were the approximate dates? I only ask to see if it was a 6 month wait or a 7 month wait for you.
Sorry, my memory was already wrong: submitted April 27, received Sept 29, so 5 months. But I was ahead of the rush that followed the Ford election.
Last I inquired, I was told there was a lot of claims that arrived in June. She said not to expect my rebate until 2019. But she did say it is all supposed to be wound up by end of March 2019. So I guess that is the longest we have to wait. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Email from them today for rebate claim for charger 23 June: " We have your application and it is pending processing. There are approx. 200 applications ahead of yours. Unfortunately, once there was speculation about the cap and trade program being cancelled, we received thousands of applications in June alone. We are processing in date order - first in, first out and we are working very hard and making best efforts to complete these applications as quickly as possible."
Thanks for sharing. Good to see them communicate and trying to get through their back-log. For me, it's been 6 months of silence.
Just got my charger rebate. Took just a few days over 6 months. No email or letter, just the money in my account. Expect to receive the Vehicle rebate in January or February. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I submitted my charger form at the end of May and just got the cheque now. Over 7 months but it did come.
Seems charger rebates are coming much quicker than the actual EV rebate. Max 3 more months to go as Doug Ford wants the program all wrapped up before the end of this fiscal year. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
